OBSESSED! Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

There are some that say the more it costs the better it is...however, we beg to differ! During a recent Lady's Roundtable, putting the product against the leading high end competitor, on a the face good friend who would never dream of wearing drugstore cosmetics...she couldn't tell the difference!

Why I Am Obsessed!:

A drugstore product that equal's up to foundations double it's price, Revlon's PhotoReady Foundation is one great deal! It is super blendable and gives great coverage without the heavy feeling. This product makes my skin look great in photos and works great when I shoot in HiDef! After hours of wear this foundation is still in place & still covering! And I love the shade options your get! Its easy to find a color that perfectly matches. If you ever do find yourself between shades mixing with a shade lighter or darker they combine perfectly for custom color!

How I Use It:

• Apply a light coat to clean, moisturized skin (priming is option but a great ideal if you are wearing for camera or out in bright light) with a foundation brush
• Once I have an even coat, I use my stipling brush going in small, circular strokes to perfectly blend this product out
• Conceal necessary areas (which won't be many with this great coverage)
• Set with a translucent powder for all day shine control

OBSESSED! L'Oreal Double Extend

You can spend all the time in the world on your makeup, but if your lashes aren't pulling their weight, all of that hard work can go to waste! Its important to find a mascara that will pull a day as long as you do without running or flaking! I have a drawer full of 'failed' mascaras but this drusgstore find is my holy grail!

Why I Am OBSESSED!

This mascara is hands down the best I have ever used! It gets the highest marks in all 3 criteria I look for in a good mascara and its a drugstore find so I love the price!

1. It's buildable- this mascara is made for multiple layers! It has a primer and top coat that work together to make your lashes fat & long! 
2. It stays put- I have long lashes and oily lids which can make for a bad combo, even in waterproof. This mascara doesn't run or leave the dreaded dark smudge under my eyes & on the tops of my lids. 
3. It is easily removed- unlike a lot of mascaras that are still hanging around after makeup remover & a shower, this formula creates a literal tube of product around you lash. When you add makeup remover or water the tubes slide right off in clumps. This is a great saver on your lashes & your eyes. Lots of rubbing or harsh removers can damage your lashes and cause premature aging of the skin around the eyes!

How I Use It:

• After curling my lashes, I start by applying the white primer to my bottom lashes with a zig zag & down motion- applying to your bottom lashes first saves you from getting spots on your lids from the wet top lashes.
• Next apply primer to your top lashes using a zig zag motion at the lash base then blink through to the tip
• Repeat bottom & top lashes if your lashes are short or very thin
• Apply top coat to the bottom then top using the same motions
• Repeat for extra volume or length. 

TIP: You should always build your mascara while your other coats are damp. Waiting too long can cause spider eyes. If you feel a dry or tugging feeling, you have waited to long.

Manic Makeup: Know Your Lines!

With eyeliner styles trending hot and heavy this season, we have had a ton of questions on what is the difference between 'cat eyes' and 'wings'??? There are actually 4 eye liner styles that are trendy but often confused but easily identified once you learn the differences! 

The "Flick" Liner

The flick is a very simple line and great for an everyday liner look. Characteristics of a the flick:

• Follows the natural shape of your eye
• Line is thinner and about the same width across the span of the eye
• Outer corner of the line turns up slightly to create "the flick"
• A bottom line typically isn't worn

The "Winged" Liner

Winged liner is the big sister to the flick. It elongates the eye and is a more dramatic look. Characteristics of the wing:

• Follows the natural shape of the eye before extending
• The extension of the line is more straight in nature and extends toward the temple with a slight flick at the end
• The line can be thick or thin but keeps about the same thickness across. May be a bit thinner at the inner corner and increase slightly toward the outer corner
• A bottom line is optional and is normally thinner is worn

The "Cat Eye" Liner

Cat Eyes are normally the most mistaken lines, but a true cat eye look is bold & dramatic! Characteristics of a cat eye:

• Doesn't follow the natural shape of the eye
• Line starts off very thin at the inner corner and thickens dramatically at the extension
• Line extends dramatically upward toward the eyebrow, not outward toward the temple
• A bottom line that angles upward to join the extension is normally worn

The "Arabian" Liner

Arabian liner like Cat Eyes are very bold and dramatic no matter what! Characteristics of the Arabian line:

• Doesn't follow the natural eye shape
• Line is thicker in nature and increases in thickness as it moves toward the outer corner of the eye
• Line always extends in past the inner corner of the eye
• Line extends more toward the eye brow than the temple
• A heavy bottom line is always worn extending into the top line and waterline is filled as well

Find Your Perfect Shade of Red Lipstick

Red lipstick is red hot this fall! It can be an intimidating color but once you know how to pick the right shade to compliment your skin tone, you will be sporting your red lips non stop!

Red is a bold color that will draw the eyes to it, it can make a statement or make you look like a mess but finding the right shade and applying with the proper technique can make you look like a siren!

OBSESSED! e.l.f. Primer & Liner Sealer

When I sat a department store makeup counter over 15 years ago learning how to do my makeup primers didn't exist. I have always hated spending so much time doing my eye make up just to have ugly color creases, color fade out & black eye boogers by lunch. Primers are a new wave in the makeup world and made to prohibit that exact thing! To make it better there seems to be a primer for everything, so which do you pick?!

I am absolutely OBSESSED! with e.l.f. products as a whole.They make a great, drugstore product with a low price point and their stuff holds up to the name they put on it. And this little doozie takes the cake! I have numerous primers that I use for various times and reasons I use one over the other but this is my GO TO daily primer for my everyday looks.

Why I am OBSESSED!
e.l.f.'s eye primer & liner sealer is a great dual product and anything that gets me a two for one has already started off on a good note! And the price point is ridiculously low for such an amazing product!
Eye Primer:
The twist up primer has the consistency of a lipstick so it glides gently across the eye lid for easy distribution. The primer comes in several shades to give you a natural, skin toned base to work off of. A lot of primers out there give you a whitish color which isn't great if you are going for a neutral or darker look.
This primer keeps my eyeshadow in check for the work day & then some. I don't get those oily creases and my color doesn't fade out.
Liner Sealer:
 I am a lover of black eyeliner and I like dragging it very far into the corners of my eyes. I'm also knows for wearing double wings and colored lower liners too. The oil from my skin causes the liner to run after a while producing those nasty black eye goobers. This sealer goes over your eyeliner to lock it in place all day. You can even dip the wand into a colored eyeshadow to create a custom colored liner.

How I Use Them
Eye Primer: 

• On a clean face gently swipe the primer over your eye lid (and I use in the dark parts of the eye/nose bridge to help lock my concealer). 
• I use a concealer brush to smooth the product out. More is not better with this product, if you get too much your shadow will get cakey.
• Tap your shadow into your eye unless you are blending. This gives you more concentration of color & pushes the shadow into the primer for better hold. For colors that I want to stay extra vivid & locked in place I dampen my brush with Mac Fix Plus then tap the color in (see our OBSESSED! archive to learn the other ways I use Fix Plus).

Liner Sealer:

• After applying your eyeliner, remove sealant wand from tube. Make sure to drag off the excess inside the tube. You don't want this product running into your eyes, it will sting.
• Gently tap the wand along the liner line & allow to dry.
• I've used this to set eyebrow fills as well.
• To create a custom liner, dip the wand into a loose pigment color & draw on like a liquid liner. This stains the wand so be sure to wipe off the excess before reinserting back into the tube.

OBSESSED! GiGi Chocolate Wax

Shaving can be such a pain, especially if you are like me with dark hair that grows in almost as soon as I shave it! I have tried waxing, creams, sprays that promise to slow down the growth.I prefer waxing but never seemed to get good results from it. The wax was either too hard & ripped at my skin or was too soft to really grab my coarse hair and then a friend recommended chocolate wax & I have been hooked ever since! 

Why I am OBSESSED!

For starters, when you heat this product, the aroma of chocolate fills your house! That alone made me love this wax. My hair is very coarse on my legs, under arms & bikini area and is deeply rooted but my skin is still very sensitive. Hard waxes that really lock onto the hair to remove it ripped my skin and irritated it. Softer formulas like honey or sugaring waxes were much better for my skin but not strong enough to really pull the hair out so I still ended up shaving.
This chocolate wax is a creme so it doesn't get overly hard but just enough to grab my hair and bring it out. There is also a property in this wax that really decreases the pain. I use this under my arms and in sensitive bikini areas with no problem! And this gives you a great exfoliation for glowing skin afterward!

How I Use It:
Using a wax warmer, heat the wax until it is completely melted & has a thin consistency.
On cleansed, dry skin, use a wooden wax stick to smooth a thin layer of the wax in a manageable area in the same direction that your hair grows.
Apply a paper or linen wax strip over the wax and rub 2-3 times back & forth over the strip to get a good adhesion since this wax doesn't get hard.
You want to pull in the opposite direction of the growth and the way you applied the wax. Hold skin tight at the end of the strip where you will pull and quickly pull the strip back.
I use coconut oil to remove any residue left over on my skin.

* I reuse the strip 5 or 6 times to remove more spots. I find that building like this helps the other areas adhere better but when you feel the strip getting heavy or sticky its time to get a new one.
* Due to its thinner consistency this wax can be a bit messy until you learn to use it. If you drop the wax anywhere you can clean it up using baby oil or cooking oil.
* Hold wax stick over a strip when transferring from the tub to your skin to minimize mess & drop off.

OBSESSED! Crystalline Pedicure Wand

My go to, in between pedicures or when I simply don't have time to schedule an hour away to get my feet done! I simply can't live without this wand!

Most women love pedicures. I've met a select few who haven't but even they wanted to have nice feet. As women, we are expected to be soft, but if you like heels and are anything like me that's a hard thing to accomplish with your feet! My heels & the balls of my feet rough & callused and in the season where sandals & flops reign supreme, that just isn't acceptable.

Why I Am OBSESSED!

This wand is like any other I've found. It has a low price point which I like but it works wonders on my feet! It has these tiny crystalline cells that cause a very gentle but effective abrasion process to remove dry skin & calluses. You aren't grating your feet down or roughly damaging like some feet products out there that scrape away at the skin. That only promotes the regrowth of thick, callused skin! 

This product instantly smooths out the rough areas on my feet & gives them that clean, just pedicured feeling!

How I use it:

This works best when your skin is dry. I will use it typically before I shower so I can wash off the dust and give a good coat of moisture after. 

On dry skin, gentle massage the flat part of the wand on your feet. I use a back & forth motion on the main parts of the feet & the sides and a circular rubbing motion on areas that are drier or more callused. I also use this on the outside of my baby toe as it gets callused as well. 

You can use this product as much as you want to keep your feet looking great in between salon visits or to maintain your feet period if you don't get pedicures.

OBSESSED! Aqaulillies Waterproof Eye & Cheek Palette

It has massage balls on the applicator tip to help you rub the product into the skin while giving your legs a great little rub! The more you massage the better. The product says you will see results in 4 weeks but after 1 week I was sold!

How I Use It:

I prefer to apply this after my shower in the morning or at night. The pores in your skin are open after a shower & that will allow you to absorb more into you body.

Twist the cap and applicator to open the product

Give it a gentle squeeze and begin massaging into your bum/thighs/legs in a small circular motion until the entire area is covered.

You will feel a warm sensation and tingling, that is the product working and should be expected. 

After the product sets in for about 5 minutes it is safe to get dressed and proceed with your routine as usual.

OBSESSED! FakeBake Flawless

FakeBake Flawless has quickly made our Summer OBSESSED! lineup! And in our opinion it is the cream of the crop! This isn't your mother's messy, sticky, leaves you orange sunless tanner, this product gives you a natural, warm glow without a lot of mess or fuss.

Summer calls for a a gorgeous tan but sun worshiping and tanning beds can kill your skin and age you rapidly. Self tanners have come come a long way. A good one will give you natural color and can be a life saver for your skin!

Why I Am OBSESSED! 

After lot of trial and error I have fallen in love with this product! It is easy to use, has a great smell and best of all it works on all skin tones! I featured this product at my quarterly Ladies' Roundtable where we demo and play with all of the products we feature on our site. I had 6 ladies with skin tones that ranged from dark & olive to pink with lots of freckles. This product gave each lady a different color that complimented her skin. It looked totally natural. The mitt (included with the product along with rubber gloves for extra protection) makes application easy & lets your buff the product into your skin to prevent streaks and leaves a nice balanced color. 

How I Use It

• I apply this at night as it does need to set in. 
• Take a shower, shave (or wax a day or two prior), and exfoliate rough areas like hands, feet, ankles, knees & elbows.
• Apply a good moisturizer immediately after your shower (don't use anything too thick or balmy as it can act like a barrier & not allow the color to penetrate).
• Let your skin thoroughly dry, I give mine about 30 minutes. Long enough to brush my teeth, comb through my hair and load the dishwasher :)
• Put on the rubber gloves provided in the box. I start with the mitt on my dominant hand.
• I perch on the side of the tub for easy clean up. Starting at the legs, I spray the product directly on the skin and use the mitt, rubbing in a small circular motion to distribute the product evenly on the skin. 
• For feet & hands, spritz the mitt once with the tanner & lightly swipe down hands & feet with fingers & toes straight out. 
• This product won't clog pores so I do use it on my face. Similar to doing my hands & feet, I spritz the glove and rub into my face making sure I swipe back into my hair line, ears & down the neck. 
• Allow 5-10 minutes for the product to dry before getting dressed. You should avoid water, sweating or putting on another products or creams for 4-6 hours to allow the product to set in to the skin (this is why I apply it at night or on a day I'm just lounging around the house)
• You will loose some color on your initial shower. After your initial shower make sure to moisturize well. The more moisturized your skin is, the longer it will keep color.
• The box recommends reapplying 2x per week. I go 1-2x depending on how much time I have. 
• You can also use a bronzing lotion like Jergens Natural Glow or Hemp Bronzing Moisturizer along with this to extend the color & cut back on the number of applications.

OBSESSED: OPI You're Such A Budapest

I am forever OBSESSED! with nail polish!! After years of wearing acrylics and dealing with lifted nail beds & torn cuticles from Dremels, I let my nails go natural so I need a good polish that will stay with my nails and help keep them strong. For both reasons, I LOVE OPI! Can't go wrong with the polishes from this line.

 My Spring Color has been You're Such A Budapest and so I was coveting it from the moment I saw it! I mean what could be more spring than lilac? But his shade is surprisingly neutral; a great option for a played down look.

OBSESSED! Clean & Clear Morning Glow (for Pre-Teens & Teens)

My son's face & body chemistry have recently began to change. As I am so obsessed with skincare its only natural that I would go on a hunt for a good skincare regime for him to begin following now! A trip to my local Ulta & a couple of trial and errors later, we found a moisturizer that works for him & a lot of others from what I hear!

How We Use It:
After washing your face, apply a light layer of the moisturizer to your entire face and neck. Gently dab a small amount around your eyes, paying attention not to rub or push on this delicate skin too much.

Why We Love It:
This moisturizer is Oil Free so for teen & pre-teen skin that is ever changing it helps to not clog pores.
The ginger root extract, cucumber & citrus extracts work together to give your teen a nice glow. And lets not forget the SPF 15! This is critical year round to help keep their young skin looking young!

OBSESSED! Origin's Out of Trouble & Clear Improvement

If there is one secret weapon to a beautiful face its clear skin! I have already shared my Obsession with Origin's Modern Friction for at home microderm results, but to keep my skin clear and my pore tights, I turn to 2 other Origins Products to help me out! Out of Trouble is a miracle worker to clear up breaks outs & Clear Improvements works to keep pores clear and tight and remove blackheads!

Clear Improvements- How I Use It:

1. With a freshly washed face, apply a thin layer over your entire face, taking care to avoid your eye area!
2. Let the mask begin to dry, then apply another layer to any area that is/gets particularly dirty or has a lots of black heads. 
3. After the final layer is applied let the mask sit for 20 mins to thoroughly dry. 
4. Wash off with luke warm water, then close off pores by splashing your face with cool water. Immediately moisturize.
5. I use this product 1 to 2 times per week depending on how dirty my pores get. I also use this product on my pre-teen to help keep his chin & nose pores clean!

Clear Improvements- Why I Love It: 
This stuff really does work to clear out larger pores and minimize their appearance which is key to making your makeup apply smoother! Your face is left feeling fresh, firm & clean! Great as a pre-makeup prep step for a big night or event!


Out of Trouble- How I Use It:

1. After washing your face apply a moderate layer of mask over your entire face, taking care to avoid your eye area!
2. Let the mask dry on your face for 10 minutes then rinse with warm water then close off pores by splashing cool water. Immediately moisturize.
3. I use this product normally 1 time per week to clear up any small blemishes.
4. Works great as an any time spot treatment for a trouble spot!

Out of Trouble- Why I Love It:

Two treatments of this mask on my entire face or just on a single spot will eradicate a breakout! Its my secret miracle cream for clear skin!! I swear by this!

OBSESSED! BB Cream

In the warmer months, wearing a thick coat of foundation just does not work! The beauty giants of a world have developed lighter alternatives for the days when you just need to even everything out! L'Oreal's Age Perfect BB Cream is my go to choice!

How I Use It:
Apply and blend a light layer with flat foundation brush over your face & neck. Top with a translucent powder & a spritz of Mac Fix Plus for a natural, all day look.

Why I Love It:
This BB Cream is made for mature skin but I still prefer it over the normal BB Cream. It doesn't settle into any fine lines in my skin and gives it a radiant glow! Its lightweight and gives a smooth finish on days where my skin needs a little extra help to look balanced.

Taking your time & doing a full face of makeup gives your a beautiful look but more often than not we don't always have the 30-45 minutes everyday to do that. How I Use It:

I am OBSESSED with these Aura Lashes! I have full lashes naturally but when I want to look super done up  for a night out, a hot date or special occasion I love me some falsies. OBSESSED! Too Faced Royal Oil Body Bronzer

I love to sun worship and with my Mediterranean features, the sun definitely loves me but after hitting the big 30, I've tried to cut back on the amount of sun exposure I get and definitely on the amount of fake n' baking I do! I have tried many different bronzers to give my olive skin that little umph it needs to look warm & glowing in the cooler months but they have either turned me orange or destroyed any article of clothing I have attempted to wear over them.

Why I am OBSESSED!

• You get a warm, freshly sun kissed glow with a touch that is truly bronze. No fake orange here!
• Doesn't Rub Off!- I initially tested this in store. I let the test spot dry then rubbed it against my black shirt- nothing! Then I gave it a real test- date night in a cream colored dress.At the end of the night the dress was still cream!
• Product distributes evenly and a little goes a long way!
• Dry coconut oil leaves skin feeling soft & moisturized
• Smells great! It reminds me of the old Hawaiian Tropic Body Oil my mom used to wear!

How I use it:

I shower and exfoliate my body well and upon exiting I immediately applied a light lotion to my body. Rub a small amount of the Body Bronzer into each body section until it is soaked up by my skin. I give it anywhere from 5-10 minute to dry, then dress & go! I've also mixed a couple dabs into my tinted moisturizer to give my face the same warm glow but I don't recommend this on a daily basis if you are prone to break outs. Product washes off easily in the shower & doesn't leave any residue or stained skin.

These sexy legs belong to my Round Table Lady, Hillary! Her left leg looks naturally tan with the smallest hint of shimmer for a sexy glow! All of the ladies fell head over heels for this product!
